New Players

You have installed Supersymmetry. This page orients you for your first session. If you have not installed the pack, see Install.

Prerequisites

Vanilla survival mechanics: breaking blocks, crafting grid recipes, furnace smelting, basic combat, inventory management. If you can survive a vanilla first night, you have the prerequisite knowledge.

Immediate Differences

No Beds until EV
Night skipping is unavailable for a long time. Plan shelter accordingly.
Serene Seasons
Crops grow only in their assigned season unless you use a greenhouse.
Surface Rock Prospecting
Right-click ground rocks to collect them. Rock type indicates the ore vein roughly 20 × 20 m beneath you, spaced ~50 m apart.
GregTech Tools
GT recipes require GT tools. Vanilla pickaxes do not substitute for hammers, knives, or wrenches.

First Objectives

Quest Line 0 is your first objective chain. It takes you from landing to your first steel.

1. Survival 2. Fire & Stone 3. Metals 4. Steel

Survival — Collect plant fibers by breaking grass with your bare hand. Pick up surface rocks by right-clicking them. Break leaves for sticks. Craft stone pickaxe, axe, hammer, and knife in your inventory grid. Check JEI for recipes; stone tool recipes are the last page of their iron counterparts.

Fire & Stone — Build a crafting table, craft a bow drill, and operate a pit kiln. Dig a pit, line it with straw and logs, and fire clay or cobblestone. Build a stone anvil and shape masonry bricks. These bricks construct every multiblock in the Primitive Age.

Metals — Build the Primitive Smelter (3 × 3 × 3 hollow masonry bricks). Smelt copper and tin from single-metal ores only: Chalcocite or Malachite for copper; Cassiterite for tin. Alloy 3:1 copper:tin to make bronze. Craft bronze pickaxe, axe, hammer, knife, saw, and file.

Rule of thumb: Quest retrieval numbers are arbitrary. Plan for substantially more copper and tin than the quest asks for.

Steel — Produce firebricks (requires lime from a Stone Kiln and limestone). Build the Primitive Blast Furnace (3 × 4 × 3 hollow, 32 firebricks + controller, max 1,500 K). Smelt iron ore with coal coke or charcoal to produce pig iron, then steel. Steel unlocks High Pressure steam machines and ends the Primitive Age.

Common Pitfalls

  1. Using vanilla tools for GT recipes. GT recipes require GT tools. The crafting table will not accept a vanilla pickaxe where a GT hammer is required.
  2. Ignoring JEI bookmarks. You will revisit the same ten recipes hundreds of times. Bookmark them immediately.
  3. Under-collecting copper and tin. The quest asks for 30 ingots. Plan for 300.
  4. Feeding compound ores to the Primitive Smelter. Chalcopyrite, Bornite, and Tetrahedrite contain multiple metals and will not process. Use Chalcocite or Malachite only.
  5. Blocking steam exhaust. Steam machines vent gray squares. If blocked, steam damages you. Move the vent with a wrench.
